You may have seen in my makeup looks that I had mentioned that I have been using two new products for my base. Today’s post is a review of the Camouflage foundation and concealer from Essence.
After reading lots of reviews and watching YouTube videos I cane across the brand Essence. It is a extremely affordable brand and I had heard so many good things about the Camouflage foundation and concealer I wanted to give them a go. They are cruelty free and don’t test on animals!.
This foundation comes in a plastic squeezy tube with a twist off lid. I like this form of packaging as it is easy to control the amount of product and it is great to travel with as it is a slim line tube rather then a chunky glass bottle that could break. That being said I think the colours and the design of the packaging aren’t visually pleasing. I know it is a cheaply priced brand so that’s great but you can definitely tell by the look of the outside.
I picked up this foundation in the shade ‘ivory beige’ which is the lightest shade in the range. I will be honest when I say that their shade range is horrendous, having only three shades ( ivory beige, nude beige and honey) which only cater for paler or slightly tanned skin which is completely ridiculous!. Sort your stuff out Essence! I nearly didn’t review this duo because of this but I think it’s important to document the negatives too!.
Formula and performance
This has a thick cream like consistency and holds its shape when squeezed onto my hand, I like to use a Real Techniques beauty sponge to apply my foundations and I didn’t have any application problems with this. It blended out perfectly and didn’t cling to my dry patches around my nose which can sometimes be a problem for me with foundations that aren’t dewy. I would definitely say this foundation is a medium to full coverage and it builds really well without looking cakey on the skin. It covered all my blemishes with ease and left a gorgeous satin finish, that didn’t need any touch up when wearing throughout the day. Long story short, it’s my new favourite foundation and I have been reaching for it more then my Mac Studio Fix.
This is £3.80 for 30 ml of product. A fantastic price for such a amazing coverage and finish foundation.
Again I’m not too keen on the appearance of this packaging, however I liked the sturdy feel of the tube and the doe foot applicator.
I picked up the lightest shade ‘ivory’ which goes really well with the foundation shade I chose as it is a little lighter so it’s great for brightening the under eye. Sadly like the foundation is has a poor shade range, only having shades two shades. A yellow toned ‘ivory’ and a pink toned ‘nude’. It confuses me so much why they would only make shades for paler skin. I really hope it’s something they change as the brand get more popular.
Formula and performance
This concealer is a a extremely thick concealer which is what I would expect for a full coverage concealer. So if you prefer a thinner consistency or have mature skin I don’t think this would work well for you, as it might sink into fine lines and cause further creasing. I use this by dabbing dots of concealer onto my under eyes, any blemishes, forehead and nose and chin area for highlighting. This blends out beautifully with a beauty sponge and again didn’t cake around my eyes. The product name didn’t lie when it said ‘full coverage’ as it eradicated my dark circles with ease and has a beautiful brightening effect. I would recommend setting this with a setting powder under the eyes as I did notice a bit of creasing after wearing for a few hours. But this didn’t happen when I tried it with setting powder!.
Another bargain price of £2.50 for 5ml of product which I think is amazing and I am actually loving it more then the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer which is a favourite with most bloggers thanks to its coverage! The fact that you can get two base products for less then £7 is such a win!.
I can’t wait to try more products for Essence, poor shade range aside I was extremely pleased with both products and they worked for me. I will be doing a full face of Essence makeup in the new year so keep a eye out for that!.
