Hello beauties, I was so excited to receive the email that I was going to be getting my first Voxbox from Influenster. For those of you that are not familiar with Influenster it is a website/app that allows you review and read reviews on all kind of products from Makeup, food, pet supplies and much more. Not only can you find some great reviews on there, you build up your score and can receive free items to review yourself.
Disclaimer- I received these products complimentary of Influenster for review purposes. This post also contains affiliate links which may make me a small commission.
Now I’m a complete tanning novice, and using this box was actually the first time I had ever attempted to self tan (what can I say I’m a naturally pale princess and I love it). I thought this would be a perfect fair test to try out because if I can use them easily then a tanning pro will have no problem.
I received three products from their tanning range, the Self Tan Mouse, All Year Round Tan and the Wash Off Instant Tan. I reviewed these over the past few weeks as I had to test how long they lasted/faded before I could test another!.
Rimmel Sunshimmer Self Tan Mousse shade ‘light’
This is the first product I tried, I figured since I was at my palest I was going to be in this process that I better start with the big guns. This is a Lightweight tanning mousse that claims to give you a natural looking streak free tan that develops in 1 hour and lasts up to 7 days.
I started off by exfoliating with a thick body scrub to get rid of dry skin, this is a direction on the back of the bottle. Once I was smooth I pumped one pump onto a tanning mitt and started applying to my legs and rest of the body in circular motions.
The mousse has a very strong ‘old lady’ smell to it that I wasn’t keen on but this did fade after it set in. The mousse itself was very thin in texture but a little did spread a long way. One thing I will say about this tan is that you have to work very quickly to ensure you don’t get streaky as this dries down very quickly. However it didn’t transfer at-all. Probably not the best tan to start with if you’re a novice like me.
All that aside I was left with a gorgeous natural looking tan that wasn’t orange and looked like I had been out in the sun, even with just one even layer (I wouldn’t recommend two layers as I think it will turn you orange and that’s never a good look). As for the longevity, it started to fade after the first wash but in a very natural way and took me four days of exfoliating to fully remove it, great for those who want a tan to last while they’re on holiday. I will definitely be using this again once I’ve mastered how to use it with practise!
Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant tan shade ‘light’
I was told by a friend who regular uses self tanners that a gel is best for beginners so decided to try this one out next. This is a wash off tanning gel that is water resistant but washes off with soap and water, making this tan perfect for a night out and for me who won’t always like to wear a tan.
The product is a very thin looking gel that looks very dark when it comes out but don’t worry it lightens as it spread out! I also used a mitt to apply. This has the same scent as the product above which I didn’t enjoy. This was much easier to apply and gave the most gorgeous even cover, I definitely prefer this to the mousse as you have more time to work with the product before it dries down. It did wash off the next day in the shower with the aid of a exfoliating scrub.
Rimmel Sunshimmer Lotion All Year Round Tan shade ‘light to medium’
This last one is more of a ‘top up’ or a gradual tanner that you’re meant to use twice a week to use in conjunction with the above products to top up your colour or keep a healthy looking glow without them.
This has a very thin consistency and has a gorgeous vanilla chocolate scent to it which I love. I didn’t use this on a tanning mitt as it was very light in colour so wasn’t worried about staining my hands. I think this is great for those who want a light tan as you apply it just like you would a moisturiser, I noticed after using it every day for a week that the colour builds in such a nice natural way, made me smell delicious and left my skin super hydrated.
Thank you to Influenster for my first Voxbox, I had so much fun trying these out and even found a use for my darker foundation samples that I had lying around since my body was darker! I recommend trying the Wash Off tan and the All Year Round tan if you are a tanning novice and want a natural glow for summer and the mousse if you know your stuff about tanning.
